Canicattini

(February 2024)

Near the South-East coast of Sicily, up in the hills of Monti Iblei is a little town called Canicattini. In this town, up on a hill, is a little apartment facing South. Papà Branca was born in this little town in this little apartment.

This little apartment wasn’t always little. It was part of a bigger house, a bigger property which over generations was divided and then further divided (as happened to a lot of old, large houses).

Over various periods, I’ve lived in this little apartment, I’ve slept in all the rooms (there are 3 in total including the living room, which is also the kitchen) and with the permission of Papà Branca painted a mural on the stairs leading into the apartment this spring.

(I also greatly came to appreciate how difficult it is to take a picture of a staircase in a small hallway)
